Help Windsor SNAP Families

You may have heard that, pursuant to Project 2025, the Trump administration is using the federal government shutdown as a pretext to suspend the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps. Although there are reserves available for this program, and in past shutdowns benefits have been issued at a reduced rate, Trump has ordered states to stop providing food assistance via SNAP completely.

SNAP directly helps Windsor kids. Of our 3,726 Windsor neighbors who receive SNAP assistance to pay for food, 1,140 are children. 42 are infants under one year.

Think of those 42 babies when Donald Trump cuts off their access to food on November 1.

More importantly, let’s not just get outraged, let’s take action to protect the Windsor values of neighborliness and solidarity. The Windsor Food and Fuel Bank is running low on food; let’s help them help our neighbors. We will be running a food drive from Windsor Democratic Headquarters until November 6.

We are in particular need of canned soups and stews, but also toilet paper and women’s personal items. We’ll be here at 187 Broad Street weekdays 5-8 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sundays 1-4 p.m.

This is the time not just to go through your pantry, but to keep an eye out for nonperishable, sustaining food items on sale or in bulk.
