OUR LEADERSHIP

The Windsor Democratic Town Committee consists of your neighbors, family, and friends, all with a commitment to make Windsor a better place to live, work and grow our families.  We are registered Democrats with a commitment to voice our views, act on our principles and uphold Windsor’s values.

You can get involved with your local party by attending our meetings, getting involved with activities in town and with the party, and volunteering for Democratic campaigns. The Town Committee generally meets on the first Thursday of the month at Town Hall. Click here to see the WDTC calendar for 2025.

Local Politics

Meet the Chair

Since his election in 2019, Adam Gutcheon has led the Windsor Democrats through a series of record-breaking victories by connecting the power structures of the party to the people.

Adam grew up in the Poquonock area, attended Windsor Public Schools, and lived in Wilson, New Haven, and Washington DC before moving home to Windsor Center. As Executive Director of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, he connected business and community; during the early pandemic, Adam created the Windsor Covid-19 Relief Fund partnership to provide immediate, direct cash relief to local families experiencing income loss.

In 2004, Adam became Windsor’s first openly LGBT elected official, serving as Vice President of the Windsor Board of Education. In 2020, he was appointed to the Windsor Housing Authority, leading the agency out of a period of dysfunction and restoring managerial and governance capacity as board chair.

Under Adam’s leadership, Windsor elected its first black mayor, its first majority female and people of color Town Council, and Connecticut’s first Muslim woman state legislator. For the first time since Connecticut adopted its modern constitution, two members of the General Assembly are Windsor Democrats.

Adam is a former Educational Surrogate Parent in the District of Columbia. In 2019, he was honored with the Windsor Bridge Builder Award, in recognition of outstanding contributions to human relations in the Town of Windsor by encouraging equal opportunities for all people.

How to Join

To become a member of the Democratic Town Committee first you must be a registered Democrat.  You also need to join in and become involved.  Volunteers in all capacities are always welcome.

Town Committee members are elected in a caucus every 2 years – even numbered years – in January.  They begin their 2 year term in March after the process which may include a primary has been completed.

Party Rules

The Democratic Party has local by-laws that guide the process.  It is also bound by rules of the state and national party organizations. State laws also cover party activities, finance collection and reporting, and election process. Click here for the Rules of the Windsor Democratic Party.
