The Windsor DTC passed the Resolution in Support of Tax Equity in Connecticut at its July 2 meeting:
WHEREAS, Connecticut frequently ranks as one of the wealthiest states in the country; and
WHEREAS, Connecticut has severe socioeconomic disparities between the wealthy and the working class; and
WHEREAS, the wealthier someone is in Connecticut, the less they pay in state and local tax as a percentage of their income; and
WHEREAS, the economic disparity from town to town in Connecticut shows up in the municipal property tax revenue that is available to fund local public education; and
WHEREAS, over 70% of Connecticut voters want major tax reform in the state;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Windsor Democratic Town Committee supports any and all efforts to ensure that Connecticut relies less on property taxes and more on income taxes for the wealthy.
