Second Budget Referendum Tues June 7th

Due to the failure to pass the budget referendum earlier this month, a second referendum will be held on Tues June 7th.  The town council met on May 16th and heard from numerous citizens.  The majority of citizens who spoke at the meeting asked the council to not make any reductions to the Board of Education portion of the budget.  The town council voted to reduce the overall budget by $600,000.  This reduction will come from the Community Investment Initiatives.  Approximately $1.9 million (new and one time revenue) from Walgreens and Amazon was to be set aside to fund projects such as technology upgrades, roads, sidewalks, historic and community preservation, police cruiser video system and other items.  This list will now be re-prioritized and not all projects will be completed due to the $600,000 reduction.  The council unanimously voted to accept a town budget of $110,862,990 which will result in a 1.94% tax increase.
