Vacancy on Windsor Housing Authority

Did you know that Windsor has a Housing Authority?   We do and we are looking for new commissioners.  The Housing Authority does important work for our elderly and disabled residents and needs active members who are able to commit to monthly meetings.

The Windsor Housing Authority, with the assistance of an executive director and staff, operates elderly and disabled housing at Millbrook Village on Mack Street, Shad Run Terrace on Henry Street and Fitch Court Apartments on Bloomfield Avenue and oversees the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.

Commissioners are appointed to the Windsor Housing Authority by the Windsor Town Council. Five commissioners are each appointed for a 5-year term; one of the commissioners must be a tenant elected by the residents. Each year one commissioner’s term expires; the commissioner serves until a replacement is appointed by the Council. Commissioners serve without compensation and cannot serve on any other Town governmental body, either elected or appointed Board or Commission.

Commissioners are jointly responsible and accountable for all that the Authority does or fails to do and exercise their powers by establishing policies, establishing budgets and by directing the operation of the Housing Authority. Monthly meetings are held at 4pm on the last Monday of each month, providing the meeting does not conflict with a legal holiday. The meetings take place on a rotating basis in the community room of either Fitch Court Apartments, Millbrook Village or Shad Run Terrace.

If you are interested in applying you may go to town website and fill out an online application.

If you have any questions about this position please contact the Chairwoman of the Windsor Housing Authority -Betsy Kenneson (betsy.kenneson@gmail.com).
